Family Of Woman Fatally Shot By Chicago Police Officer Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against City

(CBS) -- The family of a woman who was shot and killed by a Chicago Police officer last month filed a wrongful death lawsuit Monday against the city of Chicago, according to the law firm Power Rogers & Smith.

Bettie Jones was fatally shot on Dec. 26 by an officer in response to a domestic disturbance call in the 4700 block of West Erie Street. Jones was struck as she opened the front door and police have described her shooting as an accident.

Latisha Jones, one of Jones' five daughters, was in the home at the time of the shooting and the release from the law firm claims intentional infliction of emotional distress.

19-year-old Quintonio LeGrier was also killed in the shooting by the officer. Police say he became combative with officers who arrived after LeGrier's father called 911 and reported his son was threatening him. LeGrier's father has also filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city.
