3 Dead, 21 Wounded In Chicago Shootings Over MLK Weekend

(STMW) --Three men were killed and at least 21 other people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago over the Martin Luther King holiday weekend.

The most recent homicide happened Saturday night in the Irving Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

Henry Cruz, 29, was found shot in the head about 8:15 p.m. and pronounced dead at the scene in the 3200 block of West Irving Park Road, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. Cruz lived in the 800 block of North Hamlin.

Two men were killed in separate shootings late Saturday morning on the Southwest and Far South sides.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 11:45 a.m. in the 4500 block of South Cicero in Garfield Ridge found Quintae Little with a gunshot wound to the right side of his torso, authorities said.

The 34-year-old was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died less than an hour later. He lived in the 4500 block of South Lavergne, authorities said.

Officers recovered a weapon from Little on the scene, police said.

About 10:30 a.m., a northwest Indiana man was killed in a domestic related shooting in Roseland.

Corey Ferguson, 32, was fighting with a 55-year-old man in the 11200 block of South Normal when the older man pulled out a gun and opened fire, hitting Ferguson in the chest, authorities said.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 11:16 a.m. He lived in the 1500 block of Ralston Street in Gary, Indiana.

Charges were pending against the 55-year-old Sunday morning.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened during an attempted robbery Sunday morning in the South Side Chatham neighborhood.

The 17-year-old suspected robber shot himself in the right leg while he was trying to rob someone in the 8300 block of South Cottage Grove about 10:30 a.m., police said. He was taken in good condition to Jackson Park Hospital.

A second suspect ran away with the gun, police said. The attempted robbery victim was not injured.

Charges were pending against the 17-year-old Sunday afternoon, police said.

At least 20 other people have been shot in other attacks across Chicago since 7 p.m. Friday.
