Two Charged After Being Shot During Attempted Robbery Of Calumet Heights Store

(STMW) -- Two men have been charged after they were shot while trying to rob a store at gunpoint Wednesday morning in the Calumet Heights neighborhood on the South Side.

Shermond Luckey, 35, and 24-year-old Demari Williams were each charged with two felony counts of attempted armed robbery with a firearm, according to Chicago Police.

They walked into a store in the 2000 block of East 95th Street a few minutes after 11 a.m. Wednesday and announced a robbery, police said.

A man who works at the store shot them, police said. The suspects fled the scene and later walked into South Shore Hospital.

Luckey was shot in the left arm and groin, and Williams was shot in the left arm and abdomen, police said. Both were transferred in serious condition to Stroger Hospital.

Williams, of the 0-100 block of West 114th Street, was ordered held on a $300,000 bond in court Friday, according to the Cook County sheriff's office.

Luckey, of the 8000 block of South Champlain, was ordered held on a $350,000 bond, according to the Cook County sheriff's office.

Both are next scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

The employee who shot them is not expected to be charged.
