Quirky Evanston Antique Store Closing Up Shop By Spring

(CBS) -- From Mickey Mouse watches to dusty old toaster ads, the curious have flocked to Evanston since the 80s to seek them out. Now, as CBS 2's Vince Gerasole reports, what's called the area's quirkiest antique shop is about to become a thing of the past.

It's a cluttered and crowed old store named Eureka!. The name means "I found it," and Bindy Bitterman certainly has.

"To an awful lot of people it's a junk shop," she said.

We're not talking about the old soap boxes or timeless God bless America clocks here. You see by hunting down this tchotchke Bindy discovered the key to a happy life.

"I like people and I like fixing people up with the stuff that they love," Bitterman said.

She's been doing just that for 33 years.

"I had no idea what I was getting into," Bitterman said. "I have no head for business."

But Bindy did have an eye, a quirky eye, for what sells.

Now at 84, Bindy says it's time to retire. She's dusting off the shelves and closing up shop by spring.

For us maybe the best way to say good-by to Bindy is with a poem she wrote herself:

Some's on sale a little….
Some's on sale a lot!
When you come I'll show you some
Of everything I've got.

"If vintage stuff suits you enough, then now's your time to buy," Bitterman said.
