Light Snow Overnight Giving Way To Milder Temperatures
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Light snow and flurries were still falling during the Wednesday morning commute, but should end by mid-morning, as a slow warming trend begins for the Chicago area.
Most of the Chicago area had seen no more than about an inch of snow overnight, and likely wouldn't get much more once the flakes stop falling. It was a much different story downstate, where some areas got up to 5 inches of snow. The Springfield area had 4 to 5 inches by 6 a.m.; Bloomington-Normal had up to 3.7 inches; Champaign had 3 inches; and Peoria had 2 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
The bulk of that snow system has moved into Indiana and Ohio, and the last of the snow should have fallen by 9 a.m.
The rest of this week should see cloudy skies and gradually moderating temperatures, certainly a big improvement over the subzero and single digit temps we saw at the start of the week.
Wednesday's high was expected to be about 22 in Chicago. By Friday, the high should be around 30, and by Sunday, temperatures should reach the upper 30s.
There's a possibility of lake effect snow showers on Friday, and Monday could bring a mix of rain and snow.
