Immigration Rights Activists March Through Loop

(CBS) -- Immigration rights activists rallied in the Daley Plaza and marched through the Loop, reports WBBM's Bob Roberts.

One speaker named Carlos denounced presidential candidate Donald Trump as racist and said the current administration is little better.

"We are here because President Obama declared the war of terror against the immigrant community," he said. "We are here because President Obama would rather deport three million people. He doesn't help enough. We are here because President Obama declared a war against Central American community."

Protest organizer, the Reverend Jose Landaverde, said Obama administration Immigration and Customs and Enforcement agents are needlessly harassing peace-loving people.

"I want to say to the administration, they got to focus on criminals and the leave working families alone," Rev. Landaverde said. "They are just working to raise their children to give them a better life."

Speakers promised drives to register those who can to vote and said Chicago this spring can expect to see its largest immigration rights march ever.
