Man Turns In Brother For Armed Robbery Of Schererville Bank
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A man has been charged with robbing a northwest Indiana bank at gunpoint after his brother identified him as the suspect after seeing footage of the bank robbery on the news, according to police.
Kyle E. Holmes, 25, faces felony counts of armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, and intimidation for the hold-up at the Chase Bank and First Financial Bank in the 400 block of U.S. 30 in Schererville on Jan. 15, according to a statement from Schererville police. He also faces misdemeanor charges of theft, attempted theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
After seeing still photos of the suspect on TV, Holmes' brother reported to police that he and his father believed the suspect was Kyle Holmes, police said.
Holmes' brother recognized the jacket, bandanna and gun shown in the photos; and also recognized the vehicle description as his mother's Hyundai Santa Fe, police said. The man brought police to the family home, where officers recovered a 4.0 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun and the bandanna.
Officers found Holmes hiding in the backseat of friend's vehicle in the parking lot of a Hooters restaurant in Schererville, police said. He was arrested and taken to the Lake County Jail.
