Chicago Woman Killed In West Suburban Car Crash

(STMW) -- A Chicago woman was killed her car was struck by a semi truck Wednesday afternoon in west suburban Stickney.

Police responded to a call of a crash with injuries in the 4300 block of South Harlem Avenue at 12:28 p.m., Stickney Police Deputy Chief Rich Jaczak said.

A semi northbound on Harlem tried to switch lanes and hit a Toyota Corolla, which was traveling in the eastbound turn lane. The Toyota spun into the southbound lane and its' passenger side was struck by a Ford Contour, Jaczak said.

The Toyota passenger Leticia Alonso, 54, was taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, where she was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m., according to Jaczak and the Cook County medical examiner's office. She lived in the 3300 block of West Columbus Drive in Chicago.

The Toyota driver, a 53-year-old man, was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with non-life-threatening injuries, he said.

The drivers of the semi and the Contour refused medical attention, Jaczak said.

Harlem Avenue was shut down until 4:15 p.m. as authorities investigated.
