Ukrainian Village Hottest Neighborhood In Country: Redfin

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The hottest neighborhood in the country is right here in Chicago.

The honor goes to Ukrainian Village, according to a report by Redfin.

Redfin analyzed its website visits to reach its conclusions and predicts that home buyers will be attracted to the Northwest Side neighborhood. Key factors included home affordability, access to public transit and neighborhood charm. Buyers are avoiding "cookie cutter" neighborhoods and bland rehabs.

"Ukrainian Village itself is tranquil, but bordered on all four sides by business and nightlife corridors," Redfin Agent Niko Voutsinas said. "Much of Ukrainian Village is landmarked, so you'll find brick and stone housing built in the late 1800s, rather than the trendier (and more expensive) new construction condos nearby and on the neighborhood's main thoroughfares."

The top 10

Ukrainian Village (Chicago)
Eastwood (Nashville, TN)
Ericsson (Minneapolis, MN)
Hyde Park (Austin, TX)
Mount Pleasant (Washington, DC)
Midtown (Ventura, CA)
El Camino Real (Irvine, CA)
Hampden (Baltimore, MD)
Powderhorn Park (Minneapolis, MN)
Roosevelt (Seattle, WA)

The median home price in Ukrainian Village, located on the near Northwest Side, is $472,000, with homes typically selling in about three weeks, Redfin found.

Two other hot neighborhoods in Chicago made Redfin's local list: West Loop ($368,500 price, 11 days on market) and East Village, Ukrainian Village's neighbor ($482,200, 16 days on market.)
