Bank Customer Says He Was Robbed -- By An ATM

(CBS) -- A trip to an ATM to make a deposit turned into a financial fiasco, a west suburban man says.

Robert Williams says he put $800 into the machine, and that's the last he saw of it. More than a week later, he's still waiting for answers, CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports.

"I feel like I got robbed by an ATM machine, without a gun, you know?" Williams says.

He says on Jan. 21 the ATM at an MB Financial location in Maywood took his $800 cash deposit. The receipt he received simply said the machine had trouble counting the cash.

Williams followed up with a second, $35 deposit that night, and that one took. He waited. He called. But a bank employee still saw no record of that 800 bucks, he says.

"I worked hard for it. I've been working hard all my life," he says. "I just wanted to pay my bills."

When he went to the bank the next morning, the ATM was out of order. Williams says a bank employee then told him it would take a few days to track his cash. More than one week later, he says his account is still $852 overdrawn and he'd heard nothing.

An MB Financial banker say it could take up to 10 business days to rectify the issue.

Meantime, the bank made Williams' car payment and said he will not be charged any fees.
