Truck Crashes Into Home In Winfield

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A driver suffered minor injuries after crashing his pickup truck into a home in west suburban Winfield on Monday.

Winfield Fire Lt. Peter Daly said the driver hit an icy patch on Roosevelt Road near Wynwood Road around 6 a.m., and lost control of his truck. The truck crashed into a home at 28w030 Roosevelt Rd.

The truck came to rest inside the living room. Furniture and debris spilled out where the front wall once stood.

Homeowner Helen Arnold said her nephew and his fiancée were home at the time. Fortunately, they were not hurt.

The driver suffered minor injuries, and was taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, according to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

Arnold said 75 percent of her home might have to be rebuilt or replaced, because the truck hit a support beam, leaving the home inhabitable for now.

"DuPage County will not let us go in right now till the supporting beam is taken care of," she said.

Arnold said she has insurance, and is working with adjusters on getting repairs arranged.

The truck was towed out of the house around 7:45 a.m. A source said the truck was going about 60 mph at the time of the crash. Sheriff's deputies said that is far too fast for the conditions, and they expect the driver will face traffic citations.
