Gale Sayers Memorabilia Part Of Super Bowl 50 Auction

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Legendary Bears running back Gale Sayers has put his personal memorabilia collection up for auction as part of the celebration of Super Bowl 50.

Sayers played only seven seasons from 1965-71 but has a prominent place in the history of the Bears and the NFL.

He remains the youngest player inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and he holds the records for most touchdowns by a rookie and highest career kickoff return average. Sayers also shares the records for most touchdowns in a game and most return touchdowns in a game.

Items on the auction block include trophies, autographed balls, jerseys, photos, posters, paintings and his letterman's sweater. Sayers said proceeds from the auction at Hunt Auctions will go to his education foundation.

The live auction of Sayers' memorabilia begins Saturday afternoon, with online pre-bidding available through Friday afternoon.
