Uber Driver's Blood Alcohol .25 After Super Bowl, Police Say

(CBS) -- An Uber driver was arrested following Super Bowl 50 on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said Monday.

An officer was on patrol Sunday evening in Simi Valley, Calif., when he spotted a car slow down as it approached a green light.

When the officer also observed the vehicle had no front license plate, he pulled over the car and made contact with the driver, who said he was a Uber driver and that he was on his way to pick up a fare.

"He also stated that he had already driven two to three other fares in the city, and was trying to make some extra cash after watching the Super Bowl at a local bar," a police spokesman said.

Police say the driver's was at .25 percent, about three times the legal limit.

In Chicago last month, a Uber driver was arrested for DUI after he was pulled over on the Dan Ryan Expressway. His Uber privileges were suspended once Uber learned of his DUI from a tip.

An Uber spokesperson says there's a system in place for concerned passengers to report a driver.
