Spotty Snow, Colder Temps Mark Start Of Wintry Week

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Say goodbye to the milder temperatures from this weekend and hello to more traditional Chicago winter weather to start the week.

Some parts of the area, mainly north and south of the city, were getting a quick burst of moderate to heavy snow around 8 a.m., and could see up to an inch of snow in some places. Temperatures also will be noticeably colder than we saw over the weekend with a high around 32 on Monday.

Flurries and light snow could continue on and off through the end of the day Tuesday. Gusty winds during the day Monday could severely restrict visibility when there is snow.

Lake effect snow will continue to be a factor for northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan after the system moves through.

By Wednesday, much of the western suburbs could have 1 to 2 inches of snow. Chicago; suburbs in Cook, Lake, Will, and Kankakee counties; and Lake and Porter counties in northwest Indiana could get 2 to 3 inches. The South Bend area and most of southwest Michigan could get 4 to 8 inches.

Once that snow system leaves, it will open the door to some much colder air.

Wednesday's high will be only about 16 degrees, and temperatures could drop to about 7 degrees Wednesday night. Thursday and Friday will be slightly better, with highs in the low 20s.
