Report: White Sox Considering Shortstop Ian Desmond

(CBS) Two weeks ago, White Sox general manager Rick Hahn expressed his comfort with the team's roster in present form but admitted he's still looking for players to add.

Now, the White Sox are among the teams still considering free-agent shortstop Ian Desmond, previously of the Nationals, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

Desmond, 30, hit .233 with 19 home runs and 62 RBIs in 156 games last season, compiling a 2.0 WAR rating. He has spent seven seasons with Washington and is considered a plus defender with offensive upside.

The White Sox are currently slated to play Tyler Saladino at shortstop, though Hahn didn't commit to that as a final plan. It remains entirely possible that the team will add Desmond to its lineup and use Saladino as a versatile asset for manager Robin Ventura's lineup.

This offseason, the White Sox have added third baseman Todd Frazier, second baseman Brett Lawrie and pitcher Mat Latos.

The White Sox conduct their first spring training workout on Feb. 19 in Glendale, Arizona.
