School Security Guard Charged In Sex Assault Of Teen Girl

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago man working as a security guard at a Chicago public school has been charged with sexual assault for engaging in sexual acts with a 13-year-old girl.

Ivan Cotto, 29, faces criminal sexual assault charges for engaging in sexual acts with the victim on five different occasions between May 2015 and January 2016, the Cook County State's attorney's office said in a news release.

Two of the assaults took place at Brentano Elementary Math and Science Academy, where Cotto was employed.

Three subsequent incidents occurred in the defendant's home.

According to prosecutors, the two incidents at the school occurred in May and June of 2015, and took place in an isolated balcony in the school's auditorium.

On both occasions, Cotto removed the victim from class and took her to the auditorium where he engaged in sexual contact with her.

On three separate occasions during July 2015 and January 2016, Cotto engaged in sexual contact with the victim in his residence.

The defendant also sent the victim multiple nude photographs of himself and asked the victim to do the same, prosecutors said.

In January 2016, the victim's mother discovered sexually explicit text messages from Cotto and the victim on the victim's cell phone, prosecutors said.

An analysis of the victim's cell phone revealed text messages dating back to October 2015.

Judge Laura Sullivan on Thursday set Cotto's bond at $300,000.
