Frigid Start To Weekend, Snow Likely On Sunday

CHICAGO (CBS) -- You might want to throw an extra blanket on the bed Friday night, as Chicago is in for a very cold weekend.

The high was expected to reach only about 23 degrees on Friday, about 10 below average for this time of year.

Temperatures were expected to plunge to around zero overnight.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory from midnight to 9 a.m. Saturday, as wind chills could reach as low as 20 below zero.

Saturday's high will be only around 14, with wind chills likely to remain below zero until the afternoon. Temperatures will fall back into the single digits Saturday night, and then temperatures will get back into the 20s on Sunday.

Snow is likely for the Chicago area late Saturday into early Sunday, with several inches possible going into Valentine's Day.

Temperatures should improve significantly next week, with highs in the upper 30s by the middle of the week.
