Blue Jays' Jose Bautista Won't Waste His Time Negotiating A Contract

(CBS) Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista, he of the best bat flip in MLB history, has one year left on his contract with Toronto. As spring training gets underway, it's often a time for the sides in these circumstances to discuss a long-term deal, so that it's not a distraction during the regular season.

That too is the case with Bautista, but with one catch: There will be no negotiation.

Bautista recently had a short sit-down meeting with the Blue Jays brass in which he gave them the terms and price tag of the new contract he wants in a take-it-or-leave-it scenario, Sportsnet Magazine writer Arden Zelling reported. When the Blue Jays made an attempt to negotiate, Bautista rebuffed them.

"I'm not willing to negotiate," Bautista told reporters. "I don't think there should be any negotiation. I think I've proven myself."

It's not yet known what the 35-year-old Bautista asked for. He's making $14 million this season.

Bautista hit .250 with 40 homers, 114 RBIs and a .913 OPS in 2015.
