Englewood Woman, 72, Recovering After Bullets Pierce Her Home
(CBS) – Police and community activists canvassed the Englewood neighborhood Thursday, a day after a 72-year-old resident was shot while sitting in her own home.
The unidentified victim was hit in the chest and a hand by someone who fired outside her house. She was expected to make a full recovery.
Interim Chicago Police Supt. John Escslante says the woman was not the intended target in the shooting.
"In this particular case, we know the shots were directed at the house and into the house, and it's amazing that people don't have the respect for human life. They're just shooting into a house, not concerned about who is going to get hit by the gunfire," he says.
Keith Harris is the vice president of Englewood Political Task Force, an organization dedicated to ending violence in the community. Members went door to door, trying to get information about Wednesday's shootings and previous incidents, tells CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot.
"Any senior citizen should be able to feel safe in their home. When stuff like this happens, it causes alarm, it raises the flag, and we can't have that in our community," Harris says.
Escalante says while no one is in custody for the shooting, police are making progress in the investigation.
