Early Voting For Primary Election Begins Across Illinois

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Early voting in the primary elections in Illinois began on Monday at more than 50 locations in Chicago, and dozens more in the suburbs.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel was among those voting early Monday at the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners office downtown, where any voter in Chicago can vote early through March 14.

The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners office at 69 W. Washington St. and 13 other locations in Chicago are considered "permanent early voting" sites, which are also open on Sundays.

Early voting is offered at a total of 51 locations in Chicago through March 12. For a list of all early voting locations in Chicago, click here.

For voters in suburban Cook County, 43 locations are available to cast ballots, including the Cook County Clerk's office downtown at 69 W. Washington St. For a list of all early voting locations in suburban Cook County, click here.

You don't need an excuse to vote early, just choose the site that is most convenient for you, and cast your ballot there. You can also register at any early voting site, but you must have two forms of ID if you're registering for the first time, or changing your name or address.

If you live outside Cook County, you can find all other Illinois early voting locations here.

Also, for the first time this year, if you're 17 now, but will be 18 by Election Day for the general election on Nov. 8, you can vote in the primary election.
