Elderly Man Recovering After Being Beaten, Handcuffed By Home Invader
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A violent home invasion leaves an elderly man handcuffed and beaten in the West Pullman neighborhood.
The man, Lezell Holt Sr., is in serious condition and his grandson says he's a former pastor who lives a quiet life.
"He's defenseless, it don't make no sense," said his grandson. "My grandfather didn't deserve it."
Police say just before 9 p.m. Saturday an armed man knocked on Holt's door on South Princeton. When the 73-year-old who lives alone answered, the offender struck him in the face with his gun. He then handcuffed Holt, ransacked his house and ran away.
Holt is recovering at Christ Hospital and his grandson says while he's doing better he has a long road to recovery.
"He has severe facial trauma, eye trauma," his grandson said. "Going to have to have a lot of reconstructive surgery."
Holt may have been unconscious for about an hour. When he came to he crawled still handcuffed to a neighbor's house for help. His grandson says guns and money were stolen.
So far police do not have anyone in custody.
