Chicagoans Head Outside To Enjoy Warm Weather

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago is getting an early taste of spring Tuesday and CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports people took full advantage of the unseasonably warm temperatures.

At Wiggly Field in the Wrightwood Neighbors community, dogs and their owners were enjoying every second of the warmer temperatures.

Haley Peterson says she brings her dog Tucker out, "All the time, even when it is like gross out, but this is awesome, like I can just, hang out, I'm actually a little hot right now, because it's so nice out."

Kathy Kusiak was among those dressed for the weather, sitting outside at Parlor Pizza Bar in the West Loop.

"Definitely a nice change from the winter that we had," she said. "It's nice to sit out here in the 65 degree weather with my husband enjoying our lunch."

The average temperature for this time of year is 43, so today has been more than 20 degrees higher than that number.

Chris Elsass had lunch on the outdoor patio with her husband and three children.

"It's so beautiful, it really makes you appreciate the Midwest, being in the city and having access to outdoor restaurants like this," she said.

At the lakefront near Irving Park, adults were biking, walking and running. Little ones were climbing on playground equipment and swinging. We caught up with 7-week-old Robert and his mother Nakia Harris.

"When do we have this beautiful weather in March in Chicago?" she said. "We have to appreciate it while it is here."
