Rescued Puppy Stolen, Found Dead A Day Later
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Members of a Chicago animal rescue group were left heartbroken, after an abused dog was stolen during an armed robbery last weekend, and later found dead.
Early Sunday, a volunteer for Furever Rescue was transporting Tyler – an 8-month-old Great Dane/pit bull mix – in his car, when two men robbed him at gunpoint in the 3900 block of South Campbell Avenue, and also stole the dog.
The group had been offering a $3,000 reward for his safe return, but the puppy, who also answered to "TyTy" and "Bubby" was found dead Monday afternoon.
Furever Rescue said Tyler was very timid, and would pancake to the floor if a human approached him, and would retreat into a corner and curl up in a tight ball when he was most nervous.
He had been neglected and abandoned on the streets before he was taken in by Furever Rescue, which was trying to find him a home.
Tyler also was sick, and needed regular medication.
Furever Rescue said the city's Department of Animal Care and Control was investigating, and planned to perform a necropsy to determine how Tyler died.
