Bears Re-Sign Marc Mariani On 1-Year Deal

By Chris Emma--

(CBS) Receiver Marc Mariani will rejoin the Bears on a one-year deal.

Mariani, 28, caught a career-best 22 passes for the Bears while emerging as a comfortable target for quarterback Jay Cutler. Mariani also worked in specials teams as a kickoff and punt returner.

Mariani's a veteran of four NFL seasons, with his career beginning in 2010. A Montana product, he previously played with the Titans for three seasons before being let go in 2014. He joined the Bears in December 2014 as a specialist.

Chicago also re-signed defensive tackle Mitch Unrein and signed free-agent linebacker Jerrell Freeman to a three-year deal Saturday.

Following the season finale, Mariani spoke of the "honor" he had of playing for the Bears, while expressing his optimism for the future. He was hopeful to be a part of it.

"Have faith – please have faith in us," Mariani said. "We're going to be playing longer, we're going to turn it around quick. We're going to put in the work, we're going to put in the time. Every man in this building that is honored to come back next year, I promise it'll change quick."
