GE Bringing New 100 Jobs To Downtown Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The city of Chicago missed out on getting General Electric to move its corporate headquarters here, but it's offering something of a consolation prize.

The company has announced plans to bring 100 new tech jobs to the city at GE Transportation's new Digital Solutions office at 500 W. Monroe St. The new jobs will include software engineers, software developers, data scientists, project analysts, and project managers.

"When it comes to technology, when it comes to talent, and when it comes to transportation, Chicago is the epicenter of those three things, which is why it's a perfect fit for GE and Chicago," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said.

The announcement comes after GE Healthcare Worldwide moved its headquarters from London to Chicago, although that move involved mostly top executives.

In addition to the new jobs at the GE Transportation Digital Solutions office, another 60 jobs will be created at GE Healthcare IT in Barrington.

Earlier this year, Chicago lost out to Boston when GE decided to move its corporate headquarters from London to the U.S., along with the 800 jobs that came with it.
