State Police Say Beefed Up Patrols Led To More Than 200 Arrests On Chicago Area Expressways
(CBS) -- Illinois State Police say their beefed-up patrols in the wake of a series of shooting on the expressways led to more than 200 arrests and a dozen weapons seized, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.
The State Police called it the Chicago Expressway Anti-Violence Surge, and in 30 days specially assigned troopers and those who regularly patrol the expressways were trying to stop the rash of shootings there.

The numbers show that during the month-long operation, troopers wrote more than 3,700 citations and seized 12 weapons. Surge troopers made 95 arrests, other troopers in the district made another 141.
State Police Director Leo Schmitz says the operation has concluded, but the mission hasn't. He says troopers will continue to mount directed patrols, hand in hand with Chicago Police and Sheriff's Police.
