Rauner Says Chicago Teachers Union Plans For One-Day Walkout 'Wrong'

WILMETTE, Ill. (CBS) -- Governor Bruce Rauner has some sharp words about the Chicago Teachers Union's plans for a job action on April 1, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.

In Wilmette to talk about Education funding, Governor Rauner was asked about the expected one-day teacher's strike. Governor Rauner told reporters that he'll have a lot to say about Friday's planned job action by the Chicago Teachers Union on Friday. But, he says, the children should come first.

"Right now it's clear, the kids aren't coming first and it's clear there's not a balance between the leaders who are funded by taxpayers and the taxpayers themselves and the leaders are willing to take the law into their own hands and break the law, that's wrong."

CTU president Karen Lewis says the teachers need Gov. Rauner to get off his anti-union turnaround agenda and get a budget done.

Technically, the teachers say, the one-day job action is about unfair labor practices and not the current contract, which is still being negotiated.
