Several Rounds Of Rain For Chicago Area Through Friday Morning

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago can expect to see rain and thunderstorms continuing on and off for the next couple days.

Some scattered showers were moving through the area Wednesday morning, but it will get much more interesting in the evening and overnight hours, as thunderstorms could roll through.

The National Weather Service does not consider the Chicago area at risk of severe storms, but as a cold front moves through on Wednesday evening, it will bring the possibility of some thunderstorms.

More organized rain showers could begin around 3 or 4 p.m., and cover most of Chicagoland by about 5 p.m. That system will push off to the east by Wednesday night.

Then a much larger line of storms will begin developing from Green Bay, Wisconsin, down to St. Louis, and should come through the Chicago area very early on Thursday, but likely will have lost much of its intensity by then, meaning mostly only rain for the city and suburbs.

After those storms clear out around mid-morning, another smaller pocket of storms could develop Thursday afternoon, and then scattered showers could continue on and off through Friday morning.

Temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday will range from the upper 50s to the low 60s, but then plunge to near freezing Thursday night into Friday morning, and Friday's high will reach only about 522.

The weekend will be chilly, but dry and sunny, with temperatures in the middle to upper 40s during the day, and the middle 30s at night.
