Judge Schedules Rod Blagojevich's Resentencing For June 30
CHICAGO (AP) -- A federal judge says former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich will be resentenced for his corruption convictions on June 30.
U.S. District Judge James Zagel on Wednesday granted a request from federal prosecutors to schedule the resentencing for the 59-year-old Democrat. Prosecutors earlier in the day had declined to retry Blagojevich on five counts tossed by a federal appeals court.
Prosecutors' request came two days after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear Blagojevich's appeal of his 13 remaining corruption convictions. Those include his attempt to sell an appointment to the U.S. Senate vacated by President Barack Obama.
The high court was one of Blagojevich's last hopes to have his remaining convictions tossed or to sharply reduce his 14-year prison sentence.
