1 Dead, 3 Wounded In Chicago Shootings Monday

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man was killed and at least three other people — including a 15-year-old boy — were wounded in shootings Monday on the city's South and West sides.

The 37-year-old man was shot to death at 7:36 p.m. in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said.

He was walking in the 2800 block of South Kedvale Avenue when someone walked up to him from a gangway and fired shots, according to Chicago Police.

The man suffered gunshot wounds to the face and back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

About the same time, a 19-year-old man was shot while driving in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side. He was driving a vehicle in the 6000 block of South California Avenue at 7:35 p.m. when someone standing on the sidewalk fired shots through the back window before running away, police said. The man was shot in the head and was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Earlier Monday afternoon, a teenage boy was injured in a separate Little Village neighborhood shooting. The 15-year-old was standing outside at 3:39 p.m. in the 2800 block of South Homan when someone walked up, pulled out a gun and opened fire, police said. He was shot in the right leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Monday's first shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. in the West Side Austin neighborhood. A 25-year-old man was a passenger in a vehicle driving westbound in the 5300 block of West Chicago when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the right foot, police said. He was driven to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where his condition was stabilized.

Additionally, a person was fatally shot by a Chicago Police officer Monday night in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. About 7:40 p.m., Harrison District officers attempted to curb a vehicle matching the description of one used in an earlier shooting and one person ran away, police said. After a short foot chase, that person and an officer got into "an armed confrontation" in the 3400 block of West Grenshaw and the officer subsequently fatally shot the person.
