Best Medicine At Suburban Retirement Home? Sunny The Parakeet

(CBS) – Coffee hour isn't coffee hour without Sunny.

You can't miss him. He's bright yellow and he can speak 50 words.

But even when he's not talking, you always know he's in the room by the smiles on the faces.

"We've been through a lot of things together," says his owner, Kay.

She has a number of health issues and is on several medications.

They take care of each other and spread that love around the Oak Trace Health Center in Downers Grove, where she's lived for 22 years.

"You know you made many people smile today, and that is one of the best medicines that you can give," Kay tells the bird.
