Video Shows Police Scuffling With Suspect, Who Later Died

CHICAGO (AP) -- A video has been released of Chicago police arresting a man last year who later died in custody.

The video taken by a squad-mounted camera on July 20, 2015, shows 24-year-old Heriberto Godinez thrashing about while handcuffed. It shows an officer putting a foot on his neck for about two seconds as others tried to bring him under control.

Godinez was arrested as police responded to a report of a burglary. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County medical examiner's office determined the cause of Godinez's death to be "combined cocaine and ethanol toxicity." The manner of his death was undetermined.

Two police officers have been placed on administrative duties pending the outcome of an investigation.

The man's sister, Janet Godinez, had contended the city was violating a February policy change to release such footage within 60 to 90 days. The policy resulted from anger over a year-long delay in releasing video of a white officer shooting black teenager Laquan McDonald.
