3 Killed, 23 Wounded In Weekend Shootings On South, West Sides

(STMW) --Three men were killed and at least 23 other people — including a baby girl — have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday afternoon.

The most recent fatal shooting happened early Sunday in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Officers responding to a call of person shot about 1:25 a.m. Sunday found a 32-year-old man lying in the street near the corner of West 13th Street and South Central Park Avenue, according to Chicago Police.

The man had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Family members identified him as Fredrick Lee Blount, who has a 1-year-old daughter, a 12-year-old son and three sisters.

"He was a good person, worked every day, wasn't up to nothing," said Blount's father, 54-year-old Fredrick Lee Irons, adding that his family has never before been affected by gun violence.

"Sundays he loved to cook. Tomorrow he would've been calling me to come over and barbecue with him."

Late Friday, a double homicide happened at an Englewood neighborhood party on the South Side.

A male who wasn't allowed into the party in a garage in the 7400 block of South Eggleston returned with a gun about 11:20 p.m. and started shooting, police said.

Pierre Payne, 32, was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene at 11:38 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. He lived in the 1900 block of East 71st Street.

Andrew H. Haynes, 34, was shot several times in the torso and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:11 a.m., authorities said. He lived in the first block of West 13th Street. Police initially said he was 35.

A 45-year-old man shot in the left hip was also taken to Stroger, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Friday evening, a 1-year-old girl was shot in the neck in a car with family members driving in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

She was in the back seat of a car with her aunt and cousin going west in the 5400 block of West Le Moyne about 4:45 p.m. when someone in a silver vehicle fired shots at the car, police said.

A bullet went through the trunk and back seat, hitting the girl in the neck, police said.

The driver took her to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park. She was transferred to Stroger Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, police said.

Most recently, a man suffered a graze wound in a shooting in the South Side Chatham neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

About 1:50 p.m., the 27-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the leg in the 8300 block of South Stewart, police said. He declined medical attention at the scene.

At least 20 other people have been wounded in shootings on the South and West sides since 5:15 p.m. Friday.
