Man Charged With 2015 Double Fatal Shooting In Austin

(STMW) -- A man has been charged with a double fatal shooting last year in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

Jose Ortiz, 31, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the shooting that happened on June 7, 2015, according to Chicago Police.

About 3:50 a.m., Richard Rodriquez and Jossean Rueda, both 19, were driving in the 1600 block of North Cicero when a light-colored vehicle pulled alongside and someone inside fired shots, police said.

Police said one of the men was shot in the head and the other man was shot multiple times in his body.

Rodriquez and Rueda were both taken to Stroger Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, police said. Rodriquez lived in the 2300 block of North Keeler, and Rueda lived in the 1100 block of North Harding.

No motive was provided for the shooting Sunday morning.

Ortiz, of the 4100 block of North Francisco, is scheduled to appear in bond court Sunday.
