(CBS) -- Chicago's consul general of Ecuador says at least one person here lost a family member in the earthquake.

A woman here in Chicago is mourning the loss of a family member in Ecuador, says Carlos Lenin Housse, the consul general of Ecuador.

"It was a family member who was at the time at her house and her house collapsed with her inside," he said.

The consul general says he and his staff have gotten lots of calls from people - Ecuadoreans here asking for information - and many calls from people asking how they can help.

"It has been really hard for us these last days," Lenin Housse said. "The hardest part is, first of all, to realize the magnitude of this tragedy because at the beginning, like one hour later, we thought it wouldn't be that big in terms of the damage and the affected population."

A meeting tonight in Albany Park is aimed at coordinating earthquake relief efforts here.
