Chef Mindy Segal Offers New Line Of Marijuana Edibles

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A celebrity Chicago chef is launching a new line of medical marijuana edibles.

James Beard Award-winning Chef Mindy Segal was at the Moca Modern Cannabis Dispensary on the 2800 block of West Fullerton this Wednesday launching her cannabis "brittles," now on sale for qualifying patients in 28 medical marijuana dispensaries across Illinois.

Segal's preview release includes a cannabis milk chocolate bite with peanut brittle and whipped peanut butter and a dark chocolate bite with toffee brittle, smoked almond and salted caramel.

"The whole idea is to help patients, give them a product that is actually delicious and something they enjoy and also they can find relief." she told WBBM Newsradio. "If finding relief means they're getting high or getting out of pain, you make the decision, you're an adult. I'm helping people."

Segal said her products are carefully packaged and for adults with medical needs only.

"It is an adult product. It is like alcohol, you have to be 21 or over to ingest it. This is done very legally, very organized, very regulated and very seriously."

Segal's future cannabis products will include a line of infused granola bites as well as mixes for things like hot chocolate and baked goods.
