By The Numbers: Jake Arrieta's Dominant Run

(CBS) Cubs ace Jake Arrieta tossed his second career no-hitter Thursday night, leading his team to a 16-0 blanking of the Reds at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. It continued a historic, dominant run by Arrieta, the reigning National League Cy Young winner.

How dominant has it been? Take a look at some of these stats.

--- This was Arrieta's second no-hitter across his last 11 regular-season starts, and he struck out six while walking four. Arrieta also threw a no-hitter in a 2-0 win against the Dodgers last Aug. 30, when he struck out 12 and walked one.

--- In his past 24 regular-season starts, Arrieta's 20-1 with a 0.86 ERA and a 0.70 WHIP, according to CSN Chicago ace researcher Chris Kamka.

--- Arrieta's only loss in this historic stretch was marked by a historic moment on the other side, as Cole Hamels, then with the Phillies, fired a no-hitter in his team's 5-0 win at Wrigley Field on July 25.

--- Arrieta has only walked 33 batters in his past 178 innings, per Kamka.

--- Arrieta has registered 24 straight quality starts (at least six innings with three or fewer earned runs allowed). In that stretch, he's held the foe to four or fewer hits on 15 occasions.

--- Arrieta improved to 4-0 with a 0.87 ERA and 0.68 WHIP this season.
