Man Charged With Killing Two Fellow Residents At Senior Apartment Complex In Lyons

UPDATED: 7:08 p.m. 4/26/16

(CBS) – A 67-year-old man has been charged with killing two fellow residents at the Riverwalk Senior Residences in west suburban Lyons on Sunday.

Officials say John Arnold got into an arguement with the two victims, 73-year-old David Bosseler and a 51-year-old woman whose name has not been released pending family notification. Arnold said the two stole his property and then early Sunday morning lunged into their apartment and stabbed them to death with a large knife.

The two victims were found dead during a well-being check on Monday afternoon.

Arnold is charged with two counts of first degree murder and is scheduled to appear in bond court on Wednesday.

"I couldn't believe it, something like that could happen in my building," said Paul Bednar.

The Riverwalk, on Ogden Avenue, is an assisted-living facility.

"Most of the folks are elderly here some have caretakers and some have family that comes in and helps from time to time," Bednar said.

Management didn't respond to our requests for an interview. An online review site says the apartments are an assisted living facility where, "Staff is awake and available 24 hours a day so if any emergencies occur no matter the time, there will be someone ready to help."

Residents say a passcode is necessary to enter the building's main door and though troubled by the deaths, they are coping as best they can.

Resident Martin Tomasian says he still feels safe inside.
