1 Dead, 14 Wounded In Monday Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 16-year-old boy was killed and at least 14 other people were wounded in shootings Monday across Chicago.

The teenage boy was killed and an 18-year-old man was wounded in an Englewood neighborhood shooting about 4:45 p.m. on the South Side, police said.

The two were outside in the 7300 block of South Sangamon when a male wearing a black hoodie shot them, police said.

The 16-year-old was shot in head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office did not confirm the death Monday evening.

The man was shot in the shoulder and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Most recently, a man was shot about 11:10 p.m. in the Fuller Park neighborhood on the South Side. The 26-year-old was in a vehicle in the 5400 block of South Wentworth when someone in a black vehicle nearby opened fire, police said. The man was shot in the back and taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said the man is a documented gang member and he was not cooperating with investigators.

Less than 90 minutes earlier, a 21-year-old man was shot in the West Side Austin neighborhood. He was standing outside with a group in the 5500 block of West Iowa about 10 p.m. when a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt walked up, pulled out a gun and announced a robbery, police said. The man started wrestling with the suspect and was subsequently shot in the right thigh. It was not immediately known whether the suspect made off with any proceeds from the robbery. The man later showed up at Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

About 9:30 p.m., a 21-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the South Side Bronzeville neighborhood. He was standing in the 2700 block of South State when someone walked up and shot him in the right leg before getting into a dark-colored sedan that sped away, police said. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

About 30 minutes earlier, a 16-year-old boy was left in critical condition after he was shot in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood. The teenager was shot in the chest about 9 p.m. in the 1600 block of West 21st Street, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, but further details were not available late Monday.

An hour earlier, a man was shot in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side. The 19-year-old was standing outside with two friends about 8 p.m. in the 11700 block of South Sangamon when a male walking north on the block shot him four times before running away southbound, police said. The man was taken to Christ Medical Center in serious condition.

Earlier Monday evening, a 23-year-old man was shot in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. He was at the mouth of an alley in the 1100 block of South Springfield about 6 p.m. when he was shot in the abdomen, police said. He was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital.

About 4:50 p.m., two men were shot in the West Side Austin neighborhood. A 23-year-old man was sitting on a fire hydrant in the 600 block of North Cicero when two people walked up behind him and shot him six times, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition had stabilized. At the same time, a 30-year-old man who was driving past the scene of the shooting was struck in the back with a bullet fragment, police said. His condition was also stabilized at Mount Sinai.

An 18-year-old man was shot Monday afternoon in the South Side Chatham neighborhood. He was outside just before 3:30 p.m. in the 8200 block of South Lafayette when someone came out of a gangway and shot him in the hip, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in fair condition.

Monday morning, a 38-year-old man was shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side. He was shot in the back at 9:13 a.m. in the 300 block of West 114th Street and was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

About eight hours earlier, two men were grazed by bullets in the Avalon Park neighborhood on the South Side. The shooting happened about 1:45 a.m. in the 8200 block of South Kimbark, police said. A 28-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the back and was taken to Stroger Hospital, and a 31-year-old man with a similar injury later showed up at South Shore Hospital. Their conditions were stabilized and they were not cooperating with investigators, police said.

Monday's first shooting happened less than an hour earlier in the Rogers Park neighborhood on the North Side. A 16-year-old boy was on a sidewalk in the 2300 block of West Granville about 1:15 a.m. when someone shot at him from the other side of the street, police said. The boy suffered a gunshot wound to the right leg and was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where his condition was stabilized.

Additionally, a Chicago Police officer was shot during a foot chase in the Little Village neighborhood about 4:15 p.m. His injuries were not considered life-threatening and one person was taken into custody, police said.
