Two Dead, 21 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

(STMW) -- Two men were killed and at least 21 other people have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday afternoon, according to Chicago Police.

The latest homicide happened during a Washington Park neighborhood shootout Saturday afternoon on the South Side.

A 36-year-old man and 17-year-old boy were firing on each other about 1:20 p.m. in the 100 block of West Garfield. The man was shot in the chest and side and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died, police said.

The boy suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was also taken to Stroger, where he listed in good condition, police said. Charges were pending against him.

About 2 a.m. Saturday, another man was shot to death in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Someone walked up to a 30-year-old man on a sidewalk in the 2200 block of South Kolin and shot him in the head. He later died at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office has not released either of the victims' names.

The latest nonfatal shooting happened at 6:11 a.m. Sunday in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

A 50-year-old was standing outside in the 4900 block of West Superior when a male armed with a gun exited a gray vehicle nearby, announced a robbery and then fired shots at the man, police said. The shooter then jumped back into the vehicle, which was driven by another male, and it sped away, police said. It was not immediately known whether anything was stolen. The 50-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital.

About 4:30 a.m. Sunday, a man and a woman were shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side. The pair, both 25 years old, were driving southbound in the 10700 block of South King when a white Pontiac Grand Prix pulled up beside them and someone inside fired shots, police said. The man was shot in the abdomen and leg and the woman suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg, police said. The woman drove them to Roseland Community Hospital, where her condition was stabilized. The man was listed in critical condition and was later transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. A police source said he is a documented gang member.

About 20 minutes earlier, a 24-year-old man was shot in the Portage Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side. He told investigators he was a passenger in a vehicle traveling northbound in the 3200 block of North Laramie about 4:10 a.m. when a black SUV began following, police said. The man heard several shots and realized he'd been struck in the back. The vehicle continued to Community First Medical Center. The man was transferred to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized.

About 3 a.m., two men wounded in a shooting walked into the Englewood District station on the South Side. The men, ages 22 and 32, walked into the station at 1438 W. 63rd St., police said. They told investigators the shooting happened in the 6300 block of South Hamilton. The 22-year-old man was shot in the right leg, while the older man suffered a graze wound to the forehead. The younger man was taken in good condition to Holy Cross Hospital, while the older man was treated at the scene and refused additional medical attention.

Earlier Sunday, a 35-year-old man was shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side. He was walking in the 4800 block of South Bishop about 12:15 a.m. when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the ankle, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.

At least 13 other people have been wounded in shootings since 8 p.m. Friday.
