Bears Release Offensive Lineman Matt Slauson

(CBS) The Chicago Bears have released offensive lineman Matt Slauson, the team announced Sunday.

Slauson, 30, started 37 games with the Bears in the last three seasons, 33 at left guard and four at center. He played three seasons with the New York Jets before signing with the Bears as a free agent.

The writing was on the wall for Slauson's release, as the Bears selected guard Cody Whitehair from Kansas State in the second round over the weekend. Letting Slauson go will also save Chicago just shy of $2.6 million on the salary cap, 670 The Score's Dan Durkin reported.

The Bears also released veteran safety Antrel Rolle.
