Group Of Englewood Moms Against Violence Treated To Spa Day

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A group of deserving Englewood moms received a much needed day of pampering ahead of Mother's Day.

The members of the group Mothers Against Senseless Killings rarely take a day off. They are usually seen tending to the streets of Chicago's toughest neighborhoods.

But today they traded in a day of patrolling for one of pampering.

"For many of us this is out first time at a spa or even for some of the mothers getting a pedicure," said Tamara Manasseh. "It's kind of like you do so much work with your hands, you do so much work with your feet, you use your body to work for the community every day."

Work that a Deerfield spa owner says shouldn't go unnoticed, which is why she reached out.

"When I saw her and she had so much passion in her voice and she was right on the target when she said that the violence will never be stopped if the moms will not get involved," said Anna Pamula, owner of Renu Spa.

For one mom, her day of relaxation also serves as painful reminder of a daughter gone too soon.

"I used to do this with her but....it's kinda rough on me today but it's okay," said Nortasha Stingley.

In addition to manicures and pedicures the women enjoyed facials, lunch and received special gifts to take home.
