After Man Cleared Of Indecency Charge, Neighbors Angry In Oak Lawn
OAK LAWN (CBS) -- Homeowners on the South Side are on a mission.
They are warning parents about a man who has been arrested several times for touching himself inappropriately with children nearby.
A judge's acquittal of Daniel Vorberg on indecency charges has created an an uproar here in Oak Lawn and nearby communities.
Vorberg's rap sheet goes back a ways.
In 2009, he was arrested for attempted child abduction, but he was acquitted.
Three years later, he was sentenced to three years in prison, convicted of public indecency.
He was caught touching himself inappropriately as he watched children outside a school.
Now the Oak Lawn man has been acquitted of a similar offense that allegedly took place behind a child care center.
The judge ruled that DNA evidence was inconclusive.
"We are disappointed with the verdict," said Oak Lawn Police chief Michael Murray. "But we understand that this is the system that we work under."
Nobody answered the door at the Vorberg home on Tuesday--a house that sits directly across the street from a playground and park.
Vorberg is not a registered sex offender since the crime of public indecency was not considered a sex crime then.
"I told two parents in the last two days that have been here with their kids to beware and pointed to his house," said Vorberg's neighbor, Scott Lanigan.
Sandy Vorberg, the mother of the accused, told Patch.com that her son has been unfairly treated by local police.
In her words, the last eight years have been "a living hell."
