Motorist Found Fatally Shot Along I-57

(CBS) -- A man was killed Monday evening, after he was shot in the head just before driving onto I-57.

Chicago police said an officer found the 37-year-old man in a silver van, after responding to reports of shots fired around 111th Street and I-57. The victim had been shot in the head.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office has identified the victim as Maurice Johnston, of West Pullman.

Police said the shooting happened at 111th and Hamlet, just before the man got on the expressway around 8:30 p.m. The van kept going after the man was shot, making its way onto I-57, and coming to a stop near 108th Street.

Illinois State Police shut down northbound I-57 during the investigation.

Early reports indicated someone in a light-colored vehicle had been firing shots at the van.

No one was in custody Tuesday morning.
