Scattered Storms Arriving Wednesday Evening

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Showers and storms should fire up across the Chicago area Wednesday afternoon and evening, and rain will continue to be a threat through the next week.

While there is a high threat of severe weather to the west of us, Illinois should expect just garden variety showers and scattered thunderstorms on Wednesday.

A lot of heat and humidity will be building up throughout the day, with highs expected to be in the mid 80s, and by about 5 or 6 p.m., the western suburbs could begin seeing some storm activity.

There is a marginal risk for severe storms far to the west of the Chicago area, but there's much less chance of strong storms east of Interstate 55.

Rain likely will continue through early morning Thursday, and then conditions should dry out after sunrise.

Chances for showers and storms ramp up again Thursday afternoon and evening, as warm and humid conditions persist.

There will be a chance for rain through the start of next week, though at this point, it doesn't look like any of the storms will be heavy. Each of the next seven days will see highs in the low to mid 80s, with overnight temperatures dropping into the mid to upper 60s.
