Two Men Shot -- One Fatally -- At Englewood Barbershop

WBBM's Steve Miller

(CBS) – Chicago Police say a 37-year-old man has been killed and a 36-year-old wounded in a shooting inside a barber shop in Englewood this afternoon.

The two men were waiting to get their hair cut at Powell's Barber Shop in the 1100 block of West 63rd Street.

The owner of the shop, Sunni Ali Powell, tells WBBM he was just outside the shop when the men were shot.

"A guy just came through the front door. He walked in right behind somebody else who was buzzed in. Then he turned to the right and saw the guy and walked towards him and started shooting.

"And he unloaded the gun and he turned around and ran out."

Powell says the man fired six times.

One man died, another shot and wounded.

Powell says the two men who were shot were not regular customers.

Chicago Police say they were gang members.

Powell says he's owned the barber shop for six years.  He says someone was shot outside his shop once.

"My business is legit. I'm not giving up," he says.

Last fall, Powell had a "Peace Party" -- a back-to-school celebration he called a "positive free party for the kids and the community."

And Powell says he's been planning another one to begin the summer.

"We'll have to do it bigger now," he says.
