One Rescued From Lake Near North Avenue, One Still Missing

CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person was rescued from Lake Michigan near North Avenue Beach on Sunday afternoon, and police boats were searching for a second person who had gone into the water.

Fire Department and Police Department boats responded to a report of a person who jumped in the water near North Avenue around 3 p.m. One person was rescued and taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in good condition, officials said, but a second person was still missing as of 5:30 p.m.

According to unconfirmed dispatch reports, police also were trying to recover a vacant boat floating near Diversey Harbor, but it was not immediately clear if the boat was connected to the rescue effort.
