Jose Abreu 5th Among AL 1st Basemen In Initial All-Star Voting Returns

(CBS) The initial returns on the American League All-Star voting suggest it's going to be difficult for the White Sox to get a position player on the team.

In the first round of fan balloting, Jose Abreu checked in at fifth among AL third baseman, while Melky Cabrera was 10th in the outfield voting. No other White Sox player appeared among the leaders.

Here's a look at the early returns. Much like in 2015, the Royals are dominating in the fan vote.

Fans elect the position-player starters, while managers and players select the rest of the All-Star rosters, save for one final fan vote for the last reserve in each league. The first round of NL voting returns is set to be released Wednesday.

The White Sox are likely to be represented by pitchers Chris Sale and/or Jose Quintana, who are both off to strong starts.

The All-Star Game is July 12 in San Diego.
