Little Girl Wanders Out Of Child Care Center, Unnoticed

SKOKIE (CBS) -- A little girl, not yet two years old, walked away from a child care center, unnoticed by workers.

It happened at Mosaic Early Childhood Center, where Julianne Miller, a typical rambunctious toddler, managed to squeeze through a gap in the fence that surrounds the outdoor play area.

The child ambled down the alley before being discovered by a neighbor, CBS 2's Jim Williams reports.

"If there were people watching her, there would have been no way that she could have done out on her own," said Julianne's mother, Jorina.

"You would think if you were going to go outside you would know how many kids went outside and how kids went back in."

The parents were horrified, but thankfully Julianne is fine.

"Everything in you just drops immediately," according to Julianne's dad, Travis, recalling when he first learned Julianne had wandered off.

The daycare center takes full responsibility for Julianne's departure.

Its attorney says a new fence is going up and the staff is getting new safety instructions.

The Millers say they will not bring Julianne back.

The Department of Children and Family Services told us the Mosaic Daycare "has been not been problematic."

However, the agency is investigating this incident.
