Board Sustains Four Complaints Against Chicago Officers In First Quarter

CHICAGO (CBS) -- In the first three months of this year, the board charged with reviewing police officer complaints closed 115 cases and sustained four of them.

Three of those cases before the Independent Police Review Authority involved accidental discharge of a weapon, either a gun or Taser.

The fourth case resulted in a five-day suspension of an officer in the 17th District in Albany Park, who made racially insensitive comments to a complainant.

The officer's sergeant was also suspended for five days for failing to obtain "a complaint register number," IPRA said.

The case included a video of the incident, according to the IPRA summary of its findings.

IPRA also broke down the number of officer complaints by district.

IPRA Quarterly Report

The 11th District on the West Side had the most complaints with 75, nearly 30 more than the average.

The 20th and 24th Districts, both on the North Side, had the fewest, with 14 each.
